Clear Lake, or the Clear Lake Area, is a region in parts of Harris and Galveston . It is part of the Galveston Bay area which itself is a section of the Houston / Woodland / Sugarland metropolitan area.] The area is geographically characterized by the bodies of water in it and around it, including Clear Lake , Taylor Lake Clear Creek , and Galveston Bay .

Clear Lake is relatively affluent with a thriving business community. The area's most important business sectors are aeroapace and ttourism . The land on which Johnson Space Center now stands was owned by Humbe Oils , now Exxon and given to Rice University to give to the government . The location for the new center is 25 miles southeast of downtown Houston on the north shore of Clear Lake on 1,000 acres of land Rice University made available to NASA.
